God has blessed Weatherford Christian School tremendously in it’s first eight years. The school’s Board of Directors desires to build a memorial gymnasium to become the center of activity at the new WCS campus and to honor the lives of some very special people has come to fruition.

The Gymnasium will honor Greg Welch, an esteemed friend of many in the Parker County area, and will established in memory of four young ladies who lost their lives in a tragic automobile accident on Ranger Highway very close to the new WCS campus.

Greg Welch was a hard working, strong leader in the cutting horse community. He will be remembered as a great showman and a horseman who left this world with a powerful message. “It’s never to late to turn to the Lord.”

He was a man of very few words, but always connected with children. At horse shows, Greg might walk past four people and not say a word, but then stop to bend down and play with a bay in a stroller or tease a toddler. He always related to children and had a great love for them.

Greg became a Christian as a young boy, but strayed away from the Lord for many years. Tragically, his daughter Whitney, along with her friends Staci Lee, Mandi McWhorter, and Lacey Osina, lost their lives in an automobile accident in December of 1998. Each of these beautiful young ladies loved the Lord and it showed in their lives. In addition to being Honor Roll students, they were active in the basketball, volleyball, and cheer leading programs at their school.

After losing Whitney, Greg turned his focus back to God and dedicated the rest of his years to serving the Lord and reaching out to others, especially children. He teamed up with other horseman, who shared this passion for the Lord, to make a difference in many lives.

Sadly, Greg lost his battle with cancer in 2004 and was reunited with his Savior and with Whitney in Heaven. Greg’s life and the lives of Whitney, Staci, Mandi, and Lacey touched our community and left us a legacy of faith to carry on. It is this legacy that is the inspiration behind the “On Wings of Angels” campaign to build a memorial gymnasium in Greg’s name and in remembrance of the four girls.

As a direct result of this tragedy, Texas lawmakers passed Senate Bill 114 to lower the legal alcohol limit from .10 to .08 percent. Families and friends of Lacey, Mandi, Staci, and Whitney urged for the passage of the tougher law so others would not suffer the devastation of losing a loved one. This bill continues to help raise public awareness of the problem of drinking and driving.

Whitney was a beautiful and quiet young lady. She enjoyed track and cheerleading, and being with her friends. She was also an honor student. Whitney was a very strong devoted Christian with a spirit of a peacemaker.

Staci was a beautiful young lady inside and out. From the time she was born she had a smile on her face. She was very active in sports and an honor student. After moving to Brock in 1995 she joined the Brock Baptist Church and accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized.

Lacey was a very talented young lady. She played basketball, volleyball, and was a cheerleader. She was extremely intelligent and on the honor roll. Lacey’s strongest asset was her natural ability to care greatly for others. She was an organ and tissue donor. As life was taken from Lacey, she gave someone else the chance to continue living through her heart.

Mandi was very active in her church and in her school. She became a Christian in 1989 and from that time remained close to the Lord until death. Mandi played volleyball, basketball, tennis and was also a cheerleader. Mandi was always happy and friendly to everyone she met.
